Most of the Ultraportable notebooks look to reduce the weight of the optical drives and the costs as well. Gateway has announced a new ultraportable called the EC14D that embeds an optical drive into a small package. The 11.6-inch 1366×768 HD resolution screen EC14D notebook is powered with an Intel Pentium SU4100 ULV processor, 4GB of RAM, 320GB of HDD and a 8x speed super multi optical drive, a memory card reader along with three USB ports.

Additionally the notebook is included with a 802.11b/g/n WiFi, an integrated webcam, multi touch track pad with gesture support, and HDMI out. Power is drawn from a standard 6-cell 5600mAh battery. The EC14D is scheduled to release later this month with a price tag of $629.99.
