Sony PS3 Slim 1 540x381 Sony PS4 might use Multi Core CPU instead Cell

Though Sony has stated that the PlayStation which it has launched in 2006 has a life span of ten years, this statement doesn’t state that the company is not looking forward with playstation4. PS3’s cell architecture was found to be challenging for some developers and Sony is looking up for the alternatives, according to a report in Japanese website PC Watch. Sony is working on designing a multi core CPU in the PlayStation 4 and they even have a look at the combination of Cell/Intel Larrabee setup, but it was discarded as it requires much horsepower. There has been a rumor that they even considered the modified version of the Synergistic Processor Unit, but finally supposed to be settling to work on multi-core processor.

PC Watch predicts that it may take more time to produce the new consoles PS4; probably the device may arrive in late 2012 or early 2013.
