ASUS plans to acquire Toshiba to be in top three notebook manufacturers by 2011

ASUS has set their goals and would like to reserve a spot in the top three notebook manufacturers by 2011. The move to buy the Toshiba’s notebook division is a part of their plans to make their dream come true. ASUS chairman Jonney Shih says that, they are in talks with the Toshiba and it is yet to be confirmed by the Toshiba publicly that they are interested to make a deal with the ASUS.
Toshiba shipped 2.8m notebooks worldwide during the first quarter of 2009, according to market watcher Display Search, whereas Asus has just shipped 800,000. This may be the major reason why the ASUS is planning to acquire Toshiba’s notebook business.
Currently HP is on top in the global notebook market, while the Acer stood at second-place. Acer is confident of to regain the top position pushing HP down by shipping in excess of 40m notebooks during the calendar year. The global notebook PC market was worth an estimated $26.4bn (£15.5bn/€17.6bn) during Q2 2009, according to Display Search figures.
Let’s wait and see, whether Toshiba would agree to the deal with the ASUS or not, and what ASUS would plan to be in top three by 2011 if Toshiba is not interested to their proposal?
