AT&T introduces a new LaptopConnect Lightning 3G USB modem via Sierra Wireless which is due to hit nationwide on November 22nd. The modem offers access to HSPA 3G band service with a faster data download speed of 7.2 Mbps compared to its earlier 3.6 Mbps until LTE debuts in late 2010 or early 2011 and is rolling out in limited areas. The USB modem is specifically designed for laptop use and comes with a swiveling adapter which you can use in vertical and horizontal orientation. The users can manage their connections with the pre-loaded AT&T ACM 7.0 software. Additionally the software lets you connect to AT&T’s 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots automatically for free of cost. By just plugging in the flash memory card, the software gets installed automatically.

At the end of Q2 2010, the company plans to deploy the network upgrade in 25 of the nation’s 30 largest markets, and to reach about 90% of its existing 3G network footprint by the end of 2011. The new 3G modem will ship to stores with a price tag of $99.99 with a $100 mail-in rebate. The data plans are lowered to a $35 per month for 200MB of data and a 5GB data plan priced at $60 per month.
