The ZiiLabs has unveiled the new ZMS-08 system on a chip aiming to fetch high performance media processing to low power devices. The ZMS-08 is available at the moment to certain customers and is supported by ZiiLABS’ optimized Linux-based Android, native Plaszma operating systems and development platforms. ZiiLABS is an additional of Creative and the first creation from Creative to hold the Zii name was the Zii Egg.

ZMS-08 which was unveiled allows full Blu-ray quality 1080p video playback. This is a generation of flexible multi-format media processors urbanized by the Zii Labs. It runs four times quicker and has double the power effectiveness of earlier creations. This chip features 64 fully programmable processing elements called the StemCell Computing architecture. The technology makes high performance processing obtainable to low power devices such as web tablets, netbooks, connected TVs etc.., powered by ARM Cortex A8 processor running at 1GHz. The CPU features a 256K L2 Cache, NEON, TrustZone security technology and 1GB addressable Ram.

The chip is set in 13×13mm, 424-pin FBGA package. It supports 720p synchronized encode and decode of H.264 video, 3D and 2D image processing and superior Xtreme Fidelity audio effects. Also brings in sophisticated 64-bit and 32-bit memory controller supporting mDDR and DDR2 at up to 333MHz, accelerated OpenGL ES 2.0 and rich peripheral incorporation such as dual USB controllers and HDMI output at 60 fps. The chips usage in the mobile gadgets is probable in Q1 2010.
