Windows 7 officially launched today
October 22 has finally arrived so as the much hyped Microsoft Windows 7. Windows 7 was announced a year back with some screenshots, but Microsoft was in no hurry to roll out their new OS after the debacle of Windows Vista.
Today at the launch event in New York city, Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer has said that Windows 7 had various test builds, broad RC distribution and over eight million beta testers in over 200 countries had their hands on the OS developed by over 3000 developers before its release to come out with a good product.
Windows 7 will be available in three versions Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate each available with new user interface and IE8 apart from a different starter version which is available only on some notebooks.
From early morning itself people are flocking various Microsoft stores to get their hands Windows 7 packs. Microsoft has announced a number of partnerships integrating the OS with CBS, Netflix and Amazon. Integration with CBS means now users can stream content from CBS on Windows 7 Media Center without any cables or DTH connection while Amazon has created a touch aware Kindle app for Windows 7.
People who have pre-ordered have already been receiving their shipments from this morning. Some PC manufacture companies are offering free Windows 7 upgrade option for the PCs and notebooks brought after July 26 2009. So contact your respective manufacturer and know about your upgrade options. For the rest of the people who are willing to buy Windows 7, then here is the complete pricing
- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $199.99 for the full version and $119.99 for the upgrade while a three-license pack is priced at $149.95.
- Windows 7 Professional is $299.99 for the full version and $199.99 for the upgrade.
- Windows 7 Ultimate is $319.99 for the full version and $219.99 for the upgrade.
