Sprint get its first Android Handset in HTC Hero, Priced $180, Shipping October 11

Sprint has officially announced the addition of their first Android based handset, HTC Hero. The design of the Sprint HTC Hero is little different and looks like a conservative Chinese redisign, especially the chins are cut down. Also the new Sprint model will be CDMA based phone and not the GSM one which the original was.

The rest of the specs are the same as the original keeping the same 3.2-inch multitouch capacitive dispay screen, 5-megapixel camera, microSD slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and the same multitouch browser. This time you get a free 2GB memory card from Sprint with phone. The Sense UI is kept the same giving Android a complete new look. The Sprint model now supports the EVDO Revision A which means the phone will get access to the 3G data.

The Sprint HTC Hero will start shipping from October 11 and will come for $180 on a two year contract with Sprint after a discount of $50 and $100 mail-in rebate. The pre-registration page is now open for those who want this phone earlier than others.
