Corsair have revealed  their high performance Extreme Series SSD, a 256GB model that reads at a speed of 240MB/s and writes at 170MB/s. This X256 SSD gets added to their line of existing X32, X64 and X128GB SSDs in the Extreme Series with an added feature of 64MB cache and also the Indilinx Barefoot controller along with Samsung MLC NAND flash memory.

The provision of features 64MB of cache memory, ensures stutter-free performance. This is also provided with an end-user upgradable firmware, means Corsair will be updating the SSD with new functionality.  An example of such updates will be TRIM support for Windows 7, which apparently reduces the unnecessary delete cycles and prolong the SSD’s lifespan. All the support and updates for the Extreme Series, including future firmware upgrades will be made available at corsair.com.

As Extreme SSD X256 is of high performance it will not be available at cheaper rates, priced at $695 and upward is given a Two-Year Limited Warranty.
