Southwest Southwest Airlines plans in flight Wi Fi access on all its aircraft

Wherever we may be, we always would like to connect to the outer world and keep the business communication going on. So, sky is no more a limit for the one who would like to browse internet in the air. Southwest Airlines plan to introduce in-flight WiFi connectivity service to 30,000 feet down the earth on all its aircraft by the first quarter of 2010 and in that process they are testing the WiFi on four of their aircrafts since February 2009.

In the testing, the passengers are asked to check the following applications including email, watching online videos, surfing of internet on laptops and smartphones. Alike other airlines, Southwest also seems to restrict the usage of VoIP and Video Chatting.

Unlike other Airlines like Delta and American, Southwest is using Row 44 as a service which uses a satellite network to provide broadband internet access, for its data connections. They plan to reveal the details regarding the charges they impose on the passengers for using WiFi within in-flight by the end of this year. Southwest is happy with the results given by their testers that the performance is acceptable.
