Although Apple-based computers are relatively safer, but does the popularity of the iPhone make it a concern that some of us just ignore. According to an article, 1000 smartphone users of 18 or older were used in the survey, Trend Micro believe that hackers are drawn to the iPhone due to iPhone users being far more likely to use the iPhone for web surfing, visiting media sharing sites, receiving large emails and shopping. This can lead to links within the messages that the user will follow. Trend Micro believes that hackers are only attracted by this factor.

The survey also revealed that as good as 44% people think browsing on their phone is very safe than browsing on their PCs. Apparently only 23% of users utilize the security software available to them. In addition, of all the user questions, 20% of them have been affected by some kind of some scam or other. There have been security flaws with the iPhone and its firmware versions in the past, but this seems a bit broad. Phishing scams do not seem to be necessarily aimed at iPhone users, or iPod Touch users for that matter.

Few had an experience and say they’ve found a security weakness in Apple’s iPhone which would allow a hacker to gain control of the device by sending a single SMS — or text message — and they shared that information. That’s somewhat grim news for firms like Trend Micro, which are promoting their own mobile security software as a defense against mobile threats. Trend Micro, for instance, offers its Trend Smart Surfing application through the iPhone App Store.

This survey was just a warning against opening unknown emails, on any device where the likely malicious person could have followed a link to a site that stole financial information, names/passwords, and other personal information via an email. While we may agree that the popularity of the iPhone may lead to future threats, directed at the iPhone itself and any information therein, so its better we be careful handling such devices and accepting mails or links from unknown ones.
