LG has announced that they will be releasing 32-inch Organic Light Emitting Diode(OLED) HDTVs by 2012. LG displays CEO, Kwon Young-soo has said that they will be focusing more on large size TV panels rather than the small cellphone displays as the company feels the larger the display size, the more efficient will be the OLED technology. To meet the 2012 deadline, Kwon Young-soo has said that LG Displays will be hiring around 1,700 employees for the new venture.

Earlier this week LG announced profit in second quarter of 2009 due to rise in panel prices owing to huge demand and less supply. At that time they also said they will be investing $2.59 billion to their eighth-generation production line by the second half of 2010.

For people who don’t know much about OLED here is a quick say. Organic Light Emitting Diode(OLED) are ultrathin diodes which does not require a backlight and are much superior to the LCD or plasma displays in terms of brightness and deeper black levels.
