AT&T Mobility President/CEO, Ralph de la Vega confirmed in an interview at Web 2.0 Summit that iPhone will officially serve as tethered wireless modem soon for laptops. Although there were no reports about the release date and pricing. MacRumors is reporting separately that the tethering capability will be built into the 2.2 firmware.

Tethering is an option by which your iPhone will serve as a 3G Modem for your Laptops. With tethering you can connect to internet or share data.

Currently two tethered options exist for iPhone- Netshare and iModem. But Apple removed the Netshare option from Apple’s iPhone App Store while iModem works only in Jailbroken phones. Both these options violate AT&T Terms and Conditions.
