Windows 7 to Load Faster and have Less Power Consumption

To all those worried Windows fans who thought Windows-7 would load as slow as its predecessor Vista. Then here is some good news for you. Microsoft has promised faster booting and less power consumption than Vista although both are sharing same source code.

According to some tests conducted Windows 7 is booting 20% faster than Vista. On an identical system Vista took 37 seconds for the complete booting process while Windows 7 took just 27 seconds to do the same which is almost as same Windows XP, The faster loading is achieved by reducing the number of services launched at the start-up. Apart from this the device drivers loads parallelly instead of sequentially which also speeds up the loading process.

According to the hardware partners of Microsoft, WinHEC, Windows 7 will have less power consumption when compared to Vista. On an identical laptop, when Vista was tested by playing back DVDs lead to a battery failure. During the test, Vista consumed 17.9 W of power, while Windows 7 machine consumed just 13.4 W. The power consumption of the wireless devices dropped by nearly 100% when connecting to the wireless networks. Apart from this Microsoft has reworked on Windows 7 kernel which allows CPU to run at a lower frequency and stay idle for a longer time. All these features are leading to 11% more battery life as compared to Vista.

As the testing was done on Pre Beta versions, the fully optimised Windows 7 may load even faster than Windows XP and have even lesser power consumption than above results.
