Sony Showcases S-Series Walkman PMPs at IFA 2008
At IFA 2008, Sony announced its new S-series of Walkman PMPs along with their B and E series of Walkman Players. Initially the S series consists of NWZ-S730F and NWZ-S630F Walkman Video Players. These are 7.5mm thin which makes them the slimmest Walkman players ever. They come with 2inch QVGA displays which are capable of playing 30fps video, the PMPs can be used in landscape or portrait orientation.
The Walkman S Series comes with Content Transfer software that will simplify ‘drag and drop’ transfer of music, videos, Podcasts and playlists from iTunes to the player although DRM files not transferred. When migrating a collection of ripped tracks from another MP3 player, there’s no need to re-rip all the tunes from the CD.
These walkmans come with ultra long battery life which can give up to 40 hrs music playback or 10 hrs video playback. There is also support for wide range of audio and video codecs including non-encrypted iTunes and WMV-DRM. The colorful new interface can be customized with your choice from ten pre-installed wallpaper images or a digital photo stored in the memory. It also include 8 preloaded music videos from Sony’s BMG artists. All Podcasts are now conveniently grouped together under a single icon on the home menu for quick access. The new Walkman series automatically create playlists to match your mood with new SensMe™ Channel.
The NWZ-S730F series has a new 3-way noise canceling system that works in conjunction with the 13.5mm EX headphones to shut out background distractions when you’re commuting or otherwise. Air travelers can directly connect the S730F to the plane’s AV system and enjoy their regular in-flight entertainment with the bonus of high-quality noise cancellation.
4GB and 8GB models will apparently be available in September, priced under $180.
